Oil Pastel Painting Wintery Mountain

Wintery Mountain

Hello everyone, welcome to another oil pastel art blog. Today I want to share with you my wintery mountain oil pastel painting that I did in black and white.

As I have been doing a lot of soft pastel paintings I thought it would be a good idea to do an oil pastel scene. This painting is to bring in the winter with the cold and snowy season and as we are heading into Christmas I find that it fits nicely.

Thank you for reading this short post and I hope you enjoy watching my time-lapsed recording of my Oil Pastel painting Wintery Mountain.

Oil Pastel Painting Sunset

Oil Pastel Sunset

Hello everyone, welcome to another oil pastel art blog. Today I want to share with you my quick and easy sunset oil pastel painting.

This post will be one of many of the silhouette oil pastel paintings that I will be creating, and I hope to be putting together quick and easy instructions for those who want to follow along.

I will do the same with my soft pastels and acrylic paintings, but these will be more in-depth tutorials and will take a lot of time to put together.

My final thoughts, I will say that I will have to work on my camera setup for my tutorial videos and overall viewer satisfaction.

Thank you for reading this short post and I hope you enjoy watching my time-lapsed recording of my Oil Pastel painting of a Sunset.

Oil Pastel Painting Demon Slayer 鬼滅の刃

Demon Slayer 鬼滅の刃

Today I created a silhouette of a character from the anime demon slayer or 鬼滅の刃 in Japanese. My children have told me that the name is Tanjiro, the main character from the anime and is something we all watch together on Friday evenings.

I was asked, by my children to do something on the Demon Slayer theme as it is their favourite anime. Actually, the animation is very popular right now in Japan and sold out at the box office on the first day of its release. Well, the newest anime that is which will be to the horror of my children as I don’t remember the name.

I enjoyed the silhouette drawing, not that it was easy but that it was enjoyable to bring something to life with just a few colours with the main being black.

It has given me the idea to create an oil pastel silhouette category as when I do draw my oil pastel paintings they are kind of in this area. I find the oil pastels to work better when I am doing silhouette drawings instead of painting like I would with soft pastels.

Anyway, I believe I will have more requests from my family on things they would like for me to draw in oil pastel, so keep an eye out for my next anime-inspired painting.

I hope you enjoy watching my time-lapsed recording of my Oil Pastel painting of Demon Slayer 鬼滅の刃.

Oil Pastel Painting Lest We Forget

Lest We Forget

Today I decided to do a painting for Remembrance Sunday for our fallen soldiers in past wars. I thought it would be a good tribute as what is going on now with the Lockdowns in the UK.

For inspiration, I saw a picture on my Facebook feed and liked how the lone soldier was standing at an unknown soldiers grave with a range of poppies at the edge of the canvas.

The use of oil pastels was a good choice, even though I could have done it with soft pastels. I am happy with how my painting turned out but do believe that soft pastels would have worked batter when I was painting in the plants as the already applied oil pastel was very difficult to remove or paint over.

In the end, I am very happy how this painting turned out and happier that I was able to get it finished and the video edited and uploaded before this Sunday.

I hope you enjoy watching my time-lapsed recording of my Oil Pastel painting of the famous Lest we Forget.

Oil Pastel Painting of a Two Love Birds at Sunset

Love Birds

As Halloween has ended, I wanted to move away from the doom and gloom feel that I pushed last month, so for a complete opposite, I decided to paint a love birds scene.

I wanted to capture two small birds sitting on a branch engulfed in their romance as the sunset behind them.

I used oil pastels for my sunset by blending the colours with kitchen paper. Unfortunately, I might have added a bit too much black as I had a hard time trying to get the blend of colours of a natural sunset that you would have expected. You will notice in my time-lapsed recording that I had to add extra yellows and oranges to try and keep a sense of the explosion of lighter colours when the sun finally set.

I hope you enjoy watching my time-lapsed recording of my Oil Pastel painting of a Two Love Birds at Sunset.

Oil Pastel Painting of a Haunted House

Haunted House

To finish off my Halloween theme I wanted to go out with a bang, so I decided to paint a Haunted House with a silhouette of a man standing at the gates.

The image I chose was from a movie-shot that I found online, but unfortunately, I don’t remember where I found the image and from what movie the still was taken.

To start I did a pencil sketch of the outline of the manor, I then used mostly dark colours to try and capture the building and then added the overgrown foliage to give it a bit of an effect. The outer edges I kept dark as I wanted to try and capture a night theme with broken posts of gates at the bottom to give it an extra creepy feel.

I’m not sure if the added mist was needed or not and to tell the truth, I’m not really convinced it sets off an eerie feeling that I wanted.

Anyway I hope you enjoy watching my time-lapsed recording of my Oil Pastel painting of a Haunted House.

Oil Pastel Painting Vampire in the Shadows

Vampire in the Shadows

To continue the Halloween festivities I’ve decided to paint a Vampire in the Shadows using mostly oil pastels with the help soft pastels.

I wanted to do a vampire for some time for my Halloween theme but couldn’t find an image that suited my style. The ones that I did find where gothic and mostly of vampire women possed in suductive ways.

I chose the Vampire in the Shadows after watching an episode of Van Hellsing on Netflix, which gave me an idea of an ancient Vampire hiding in the shadow of its cloak. I did find out after that my wife didn’t like what I painted and would have settled for a gothic women vampire; Ha!

The process of painting this canvas was simple as most of the colours where dark with a lot of black, grey and a bit of white to highlight the parts of the vampires face that eluded the shadows.

I think the blood dripping out of the mouth and down the creatures face added a bit of character, along with his yellow stained teeth that hinted he was centuries old.

I hope you enjoy watching my time-lapsed recording of my Oil Pastel painting of a Vampire in the Shadows.
